On
Christmas' eve 1999, the same day on which the English language Catholic
Encyclopedia was being completed on-line, ACI Digital launched La Enciclopedia
Católica, (www.enciclopediacatolica.com ) calling for volunteers
willing to translate articles into Spanish.
The initiative was
immediately recognized and encouraged by the then President of the Pontifical
Commission for Latin America and Prefect of the Vatican's Congregation
for Bishops, Cardinal Lucas Moreira. In a personal letter addressed
to ACI PRENSA, Cardinal Moreira called the project "a great service
for the New Evangelization and an significant gift to the Church in
the Jubilee Year".
